Derek earned his Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and a specialization in Archaeology from the University of British Columbia. After a career as an Archaeologist, he went on to complete his law degree at the University of Calgary, earning his JD in 2018. Derek articled and practiced with a boutique family law firm in Calgary then transitioned to the area of estates as a Trust officer at a national trust company. He is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.
