Emily Smyth

B.A. (with distinction), J.D., TEP

Year of Call: 2016

Emily was born and raised in Calgary but spent many years living, studying, and working across Alberta and BC. Returning to her roots in 2021, Emily is happy to be back in her hometown, working with her community members to meet their estate planning needs. She assists her clients in creating Wills, Enduring Powers of Attorney, Personal Directives, and other related documents. In preparing these documents, she strives to ensure that each individual client’s estate planning goals are met, and their personal wishes and values properly expressed. She also works with clients to obtain grants of probate and carry out the administration of estates.

Emily earned her Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Victoria (with distinction) in 2011. She went on to complete her law degree at the University of British Columbia, earning her JD in 2015. Articling with a national firm in Vancouver, and then transferring to the firm’s Edmonton office, Emily was called to the Alberta bar in 2016. She earned her Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) designation from STEP Canada in 2021. Upon moving back to Calgary, Emily joined Underwood Gilholme.

In her free time, Emily loves spending time with her children, exploring the outdoors, baking, and enjoying the goodies she has baked.
